Founded by Joost Desmet and Bart and Peter Sobry. Initially Desotec designed and built different types of installations for water treatment and silt processing.
Desotec specialises in activated carbon with the focus on environmentally technical applications for the purification of liquids and gases. In order to stimulate the sales of activated carbon the company starts developing tailor-made fixed activated carbon filters and interchangeable mobile filter systems for rent. Today Desotec has the largest fleet of mobile activated carbon filters in Europe.
Desotec develops Oxycon®, a hybrid technology whereby the activated carbon filters are aerated. Within this context the company is nominated for the Filtration and Separation Product Achievement Award.
After several years of investments in new warehouses, a specialised lab and production installations such as sieves, grinders and impregnation equipment Desotec starts with the construction of its own environmentally friendly reactivation furnace to reactivate spent activated carbon for reuse. This oven is unique in Flanders.
Desotec constructs a new plant with over 5,000m² of storage space and a special zone for the handling of activated carbon. In addition to the reactivation oven the company constructs a completely new office building. Desotec establishes Desotec Polska with production facilities and offices in Gdynia (near Gdansk).
Desotec builds a 2nd reactivation furnace, with more capacity, more service! But this is not all. Further investments are done in the expansion of the fleet of mobile filters, also for the treatment of biogas, and in a special designed truck for the exchange of activated carbon in fixed filters, discharging and loading with the same truck.
