Oxycon^®: aerated wastewater filters

The Oxycon^® technology was specially designed by Desotec for wastewater treatment. This technology implies that a certain quantity of oxygen (from air) is added to a traditional activated carbon filter. In this manner the activated carbon not only acts as an adsorber but also as a catalyst for chemical oxidation. Aeration is even possible if the filter is already in use.

The addition of oxygen also stimulates the growth of bacteria. These bacteria reduce wastewater contamination while freely swimming in the water or being attached to the activated carbon. The bacteria take care of the decomposition of recalcitrant molecules (on-site bioregeneration).

The Oxycon^® system stimulates the synergy between adsorption, chemical oxidation and biological purification. This offers you the following benefits:

• extended or even permanent activated carbon bed life;
• rapid development of the biological action within the carbon bed that is able to cope with toxic shocks;
• recalcitrant molecules are eliminated equally well as easily degradable molecules;
• nitrification (only at very low loads).
