A Belgian innovator with a sustainable mission

A company with strong ambitions and a sustainable mission, that’s Desotec, a Belgian company with headquarters in Roeselare (West-Flanders). This 30 years young innovator in mobile filtration systems can call itself European market leader.

Making the world a brighter place

It doesn’t take long to see that Desotec is a very ambitious company. Their mission “Fighting for (y)our brighter future” is taken very seriously and is rooted deeply into the foundations of the company. The sustainability aspect is applicable to every aspect of the company’s strategy and operations. This year, the company invested 17 million euros in the construction of their fourth reactivation furnace. But the ambitions don’t stop there. “We feel like our mission just started and we look forward to keep on investing and fighting for a brighter world."

Unique and circulair service concept

Desotec is providing ‘purification as a service’. As a service company they are delivering mobile filters filled with activated carbon to their clients all over Europe. Activated carbon is a non-hazardous carbonbased product with a porous structure which can filter molecules from air and water. When a filter is saturated, it is collected in its entirety and is replaced by another unit with fresh product. The saturated filter is taken back to Desotec’s site in Roeselare (Belgium), where the molecules are completely destroyed and the carbon can be reactivated for reusage.

State-of-the-art technology and processes

Once the saturated filter is back at Desotec, the used product is analyzed so the right measures can be taken for safe handling and removing the saturated carbon out of the mobile filters. All molecules that were adsorbed on the activated carbon at the customers’ site, are desorbed inside Desotec’s reactivation furnaces. These contaminants are then fully destroyed, in accordance with National and European legislation, by an incineration and neutralization setup. The entire installation and its emissions are under continuous on-line monitoring, which guarantees that only harmless water vapour is seen exiting the chimney.

“People sometimes see the emissions coming from our chimneys and ask themselves questions. If you take a look at what is happening inside Desotec’s facilities, you can however see a company that clearly should make you proud. We are really making an impact with what we do, our Desotec Warriors make the world a brighter place.”, says Mathias Meersseman.

Ambitions for the future.

Desotec is looking towards the future with big ambitions: “We are proud of our growth and accomplishments of the last 30 years, but in our eyes we feel like we only just got started with this mission. Cleaning air and water, for now and for later. That’s what we fight for every day.”
