Products with a high density skeleton are activated carbons produced by charring and activation with steam or other gases, of various raw materials such as coconut shells, wood, peat, lignite, bituminous coal, synthetic sources and semi-anthracite. They can be defined as “a porous, amorphous, high surface area adsorbent material composed of largely elemental carbon, with a high skeletal density.”
