What typical purification projects does DESOTEC have in Spain & Portugal?
Biogas purification and upgrading to produce biomethane in Galicia, Spain
This customer generates biogas from organic waste, which is then upgraded into biomethane for injection into the grid as a green gas.
To produce biomethane, the biogas must be upgraded. After the separation of the CH4 and the CO2, the gas needs to be purified from remaining impurities, mainly VOCs, H2S and NH3, due to the type of organic waste used. DESOTEC installed, two AIRCON 2000 LPF filters in series for COV and H2S treatment, and two filters in series for NH3 treatment. DESOTEC filtration solutions proved very efficient to remove these impurities and help this customer produce sustainable green energy.
Treating VOCs in the specialty chemicals sector, Barcelona, Spain
This company manufactures resins for the automotive and other industries. The process releases air emissions containing several compounds: VOCs in concentrations of around 200 mg/ m³, including phenol and dichloropropane solvents, as well as furfural, an aldehyde. The airflow of 13 000 m³/ hr is passed first through a scrubber to remove the bulk of the compounds, then through a DESOTEC AIRCON V filter as a polishing step. The set-up is enabling the client to comply with BREF limits.
Treating VOCs in pharma manufacturing, Portugal
A Portuguese pharma group is manufacturing a new cancer treatment in a batch process. Emissions contain DCM (dichloromethane) in concentrations of up to 1.8 Kg/m³, treated with two DESOTEC AIRCON 2000C filters in series. The flow is 5 m³/ h and discontinuous. As this increases the probability of filter hotspots forming, following the DESOTEC engineer’s advice, the client keeps a supply of nitrogen for inertisation if necessary. The set-up reduces DCM to below the emission limits and enables the client to continue its vital work.
Controlling odours in waste recycling, Andalusia, Spain
A storage warehouse at a recycling facility emits odours, creating a nuisance for site workers and people living nearby. The airstream cannot be channelled to the on-site thermal oxidiser, so the company chose to install DESOTEC’s mobile activated carbon filters. One AIRCON V-XL filter treats the continuous 30 000 m³/ h airflow, which contains 30 mg/ m³ of VOCs. The facility is now continuing operations in compliance with regulations.
