The challenge

A prominent player in the specialty chemicals industry, an existing customer of DESOTEC, faced a critical odour problem at their wastewater treatment plant. While DESOTEC had previously provided filtration solutions for chemical purification, the company now required odour treatment for their ventilated wastewater buffer tank.

VOC screening tests revealed significant concentrations of odorous compounds in the plant, particularly alcohols (757 µg/m³) and organic sulphur compounds (1,846 µg/m³). These volatile compounds, especially dimethyldisulphide and 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, had very low odour thresholds, leading to complaints from both employees and nearby residents, especially during summer months when temperature fluctuations exacerbated the issue.

The solution
